LEONARD MALTIN COMING TO CALGARY
CALGARY, AB – Today the Calgary International Film Festival announced renowned film critic Leonard Maltin will take centre stage as part of the Behind The Screen series, along with his daughter, Jessie Maltin.
 
Not only was Leonard Maltin a staple on ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT for thirty years, one of his film reviews has been enshrined in the Guinness Book of World Records. Recently, however, the role of the film critic has changed dramatically. Join Leonard for a conversation about how he is adapting to appeal to new generations of film fans. This event is free.
 
Other Behind the Screen events include THROUGH INDIAN EYES: A FIRST NATIONS VIEW OF THE ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS, a panel hosted by Julian Black Antelope discussing the challenges and opportunities unique to First Nations filmmakers, and THE PICTURE IS EVERYTHING, an opportunity to learn recent cinematography innovations from a panel of award-winning experts.

SHORTS: Today the festival also announced the much-loved Shorts series. 75 shorts from 13 countries, including one in the language of Manx, will screen in seven curated bundles, with themes including animation, comedy, animals and more. 40% of the selections are Canadian. Festival goers will also enjoy the 2nd annual Lunchtime Shorts, which sold out well in advance last year.
 
TRAILER PARTY: The third annual Trailer Party takes place this Friday, September 7 at the Globe Cinema. Both theatres will play trailers from films featured this year at the festival. The event is free, and licensed. 6:30 – 9:30 pm.
 
LATE ADDITION: The festival also announced a late addition to the lineup: THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT, directed by Lars Von Trier, starring Matt Dillon.https://www.calgaryfilm.com/films/2018/house-jack-built
 
THE FESTIVAL BEGINS WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19. Tickets are selling fast at calgaryfilm.com, where single tickets to all films and ticket bundles are now on sale. The Eau Claire Box Office will open on September 14. The 19th Annual Calgary International Film Festival features 178 films from 46 countries. This year’s festival runs from September 19 – September 30.
