Doc Soup Calgary Presents: Merchants of Doubt

Posted on February 4, 2015

The Calgary International Film Festival and the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival are pleased to announce MERCHANTS OF DOUBT as the March Doc Soup selection.

MERCHANTS OF DOUBT is the latest film by documentarian Robert Kenner, director of the Academy Award® nominated FOOD INC.

The March screening, presented by CIFF and Hot Docs, will take place on Wednesday March 4, 7 p.m. at Cineplex Eau Claire.

Tracing the history of pundits-for-hire from the tobacco companies of the 1950s to the current climate-change denial movement, Kenner explores the shady facts behind the theories of these hired skeptics, whose work is taken as truth by think tanks and government circles, despite little scientific evidence to back it up. By profiling and uncovering the credentials and motivations of some key skeptics working today, Kenner exposes how these hired individuals set the current climate for denial and delayed action for political movement.

MERCHANTS OF DOUBT is the fifth film in the 2014-15 Doc Soup series. The final film in the series will be announced at the screening on March 4.
