CIFF announces LGBTQ content and visiting guests

Calgary, AB — In celebration of Calgary Pride, we're pleased to announce the nine LGBTQ themed shorts and features from around the world listed below. In addition to these films, we’re happy to share that Marco Collins (GLAMOUR & THE SQUALOR), Marc Abraham (I SAW THE LIGHT), Tomi Fujiyama (MADE IN JAPAN) and many others will will be joining us for the festival. FREEHELD Headliner Series (Dir. Peter Sollett)
Based on the Academy Award®-winning short documentary and adapted by the writer of PHILADELPHIA, FREEHELD is the true love story of Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore) and Stacie Andree (Ellen Page) and their fight for justice. FREEHELD combines tension-filled political drama with a heartbreaking battle for love and equality.

CLOSET MONSTER Canadian Cinema Series (Dir. Stephen Dunn)
A coming-of-age story exploring the demons of a gay teenager.

NAZ & MAALIK New American Cinema Series (Dir. Jay Dockendorf)
The secrecy between two Muslim gay teens draws unwanted attention from the FBI.

THE AMINA PROFILE Documentary Series (Dir. Sophie Deraspe)
Experience the worldwide fallout when kidnapped Syrian blogger Amina Arraf—an outspoken lesbian in a restrictive country—goes missing and it turns out to be a bigger mystery than first thought.

THE SUMMER OF SANGAILE World Cinema Series (Dir. Alanté Kavaïté)
A visually stunning exploration of young love and one girl’s yearning to fly.

ALL ABOUT THEM (A TROIS ON Y VA) World Cinema Series (Dir. Jérôme Bonnell)
A love triangle forms between a couple and their friend in this witty French romantic comedy.

LOVE 3D World Cinema Series (Dir. Gaspar Noé)
While facing accidental parenthood, a young man learns that his ex has gone missing in this erotically charged 3D film that debuted at the Cannes Film Festival.

Also announced today were the short films AVILAQ:ENTWINED (Dir. Alethea Arnaquq-Baril ) and TOM IN AMERICA (Dir. Flavio Alves).
