Alberta Features and Shorts Announced

Calgary, AB — During the 16th annual Calgary International Film Festival audiences can expect to see the best in filmmaking from around the world and their own backyard. Four Alberta-made feature length films and eight Alberta shorts were added to the festival today.

 Canadian Cinema Series (Edmonton) Dir Dylan Pearce
When a blizzard interrupts her journey home to her wedding, teacher Kate Carter (Jewel Straite FIREFLY, SERENITY) hitches a ride with a rugged stranger on his snowmobile. The two share an adventure that leaves her questioning her future in this 3D romantic comedy shot across Alberta by Edmonton filmmaker Dylan Pearce.

ELDER IN THE MAKING 
Documentary Series (Calgary) Dir Chris Hsiung
With an underlying theme of reconciliation, a filmmaker sets out to explore the Blackfoot Nation in Alberta, discovering that he has a significant heritage in common with his Aboriginal guide. The film is inspired by the Making Treaty 7 Cultural Society, a group of people bringing the stories of Aboriginals to the spotlight.

EMPYREAN
 Canadian Cinema Series (Calgary) Dir Thomas Robert Lee
Following a debilitating accident, William Fischer experiences an unexplained awakening that threatens to consume him. A sensory experience that is both immersive and deeply felt, EMPYREAN is a haunting meditation on the intersection of time, space, and memory from local filmmaker Thomas Robert Lee, who spent four years on the project.

LEGEND OF THE LICH LORD 
Canadian Cinema Series (Calgary) Dir Spencer Estabrooks
A paladin, a wizard, a barbarian and a rogue take on a dangerous quest, in this mockumentary by the creators of the Calgary internet web series ONE HIT DIE. The RPG (role-playing game)-style fantasy characters team up with a druid to fight the undead and try to stop an evil lich.

Following our previous Alberta Spirit Gala announcement, we’re happy to keep the local pride flowing with another eight shorts from Alberta. AN ALBERTA FARM (Dir. Brendan O'Brien) , GLORY RIVER (Dir. Blake McWilliam), M22.079 (Dir. Joel Hamilton), REMOTE VIEWING (Dir. Kristen Anderson-Sauvé), LAZARUS (Dir. Tyler Lahucik), EDICT (Dir. Tyler Lahucik), CROWD PLEASER (Dir. Michal Lavi) and THE MONEY TREE (Dir. Aaron Bernakevitch) were added to the 2015 CIFF lineup.

Trey Edward Shults) – New American Cinema Series, PRINCESS (Dir. Tali Shalom Ezer) – World Cinema Series, DRUNK STONED BRILLIANT DEAD: THE NATIONAL LAMPOON STORY (Dir. Douglas Tirola) – Documentary Series, MAVIS! (Dir. Jessica Edwards) – Music on Screen Series, DEATHGASM (Dir. Jason Lei Howden) – Late Shows Series

Ticket packages and passes for CIFF 2015, which runs Sept. 23 to Oct. 4 are now on sale. Full festival line-up will be announced on Sept. 9.
