Doc Soup Calgary Presents: Tim's Vermeer

Posted on March 5, 2014

Get ready for the next film in our 2013-2014 Doc Soup season! Tim's Vermeer will show on Wednesday, April 2, at 7 p.m. at Cineplex Eau Claire.

In Tim's Vermeer, Tim Jenison, a Texas based inventor, attempts to solve one of the greatest mysteries in the art world: How did 17th century Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer (who painted the famous "Girl with a Pearl Earring") manage to paint so photo-realistically, 150 years before the invention of photography? His epic research project is just as extraordinary as what he uncovers.

Spanning a decade, Jenison's adventure takes him to Delft, the Netherlands, where Vermeer painted his masterpieces; on a pilgrimage to the North coast of Yorkshire to meet artist David Hockney; and eventually even to Buckingham Palace, to see the Queen's Vermeer. Tim’s Vermeer let's us tag along on a worldwide hunt to uncover one of the art world’s deepest secrets.
