Having trouble sitting through three-hour epics? No worries, we've got your back! Get your quick and easy fix with our assortment of short film packages. This year 68 short films will play across eight different packages, before features, and at a new lunchtime event!
LUNCHTIME SHORTS (NEW)

Join us for a lunchtime screening of short films that will give you a taste of the festival's acclaimed shorts program. These crowd-pleasing shorts from around the world will make you laugh, take you in unexpected directions, and have you back at your desk 60 minutes later. Enjoy a buffet lunch at The Palace Theatre, sit back, and get your lunchtime film fix.
HOT DOCS COMPILATION PACKAGE
The shorts lineup will include a special Hot Docs package, IN THE NAME OF ALL CANADIANS, commissioned in commemoration of Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation. The package is a compilation of six short documentaries inspired by Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
BEST OF SHORTS
On the final Sunday of the festival, join us for the Best of Shorts package, featuring the jury selected awards finalists. The winners of the Best of Shorts, as well as the festival’s jury and audience awards, will be presented at an Awards Party later that night. New this year, the finalists for the Best Alberta Short Award ($2,500 cash prize) will play as part of the Best of Shorts package. Click here to learn more about our revamped awards. Select feature films at the 2017 festival will be proceeded by shorts. Screening times and dates will be released on August 30.
Winners of major festival awards, special connections to the Calgary International Film Festival, and films that our programmers are extremely excited to bring to Calgary.
A celebration of films created in our home province, from the highest mountain peaks to the endless prairie skies.

THIS SUNDAY: LATE SHOWS
Join us at the Ship & Anchor on Sunday, August 20 at 8 p.m. when we'll announce our 2017 Late Shows lineup and host a screening of FEAST, a disgustingly funny horror flick.
NEXT WEEK: DOCUMENTARIES & MUSIC ON SCREEN
Next Wednesday we will reveal the full lineup of documentaries screening at this year’s festival, including music docs from our popular Music on Screen Series.
