After their parents' divorce, once-inseparable brothers Koichi and Ryunosuke are forced to live in separate cities. Dreaming of a way to bring their family back together, they see opportunity in the opening of a high-speed train line between their two cities. Legend has it that wishes can be granted when two trains first meet. Armed with this knowledge, the brothers set out make their dream come true. The latest from Hirokazu Kore-eda (After Life, Nobody Knows), I Wish is easily the acclaimed Japanese director's most joyful film to date. While this tale of childhood adventure is sunnier than Kore-eda's recent work, the master filmmaker uses all his skill to bring the story to life. Drawing remarkable performances from his young leads, Kore-eda lets his audience view the world through a child's eyes, with all the wonder and confusion that entails.
