There has been a trend towards religious comedies this year, but even with some stiff competition, THE CATECHISM CATACLYSM is the funniest, most absurd take on faith that you’ll see any time soon. Though the easily offended need not apply, this bizarre road trip with a pair of polar opposite characters at its core is a hilarious pilgrimage through chaos, obsession, and a little bit of bible thumpin’.
Father Billy (Steve Little, EASTBOUND & DOWN) is tired of the mundane job of priesthood, and has been telling a few inappropriate stories in community groups. Forced to take a vacation and come up with some new sermons, he sets out to meet up with his old high school idol, Robbie (Robert Longstreet, also starring in CIFF’s TAKE SHELTER). Robbie begrudgingly agrees to go on the canoe trip with Father Billy, and the two spend the day reminiscing about Robbie’s old metal band and drinking beer – and getting hopelessly lost on the river. From the twisted mind of award-winning director Todd Rohal (THE GUATEMALAN HANDSHAKE), THE CATECHISM CATACLYSM is a divine dose of comic sacrilege.
