Two years ago, Mikko was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease, a rare hereditary disease that has a 50 per cent chance of being passed down to children. Rather than face it head on, he has chosen to ignore his health and not deal with or discuss his problem, which is getting worse by the day.

Feeling trapped by the disease and by his job at an antique shop, both of which he inherited from his father, Mikko and his wife Mirjami decide to tell their children that they too may also have the wrong genes. The film follows the relationship between the parents and their three children as they struggle to say what they want, learn to love what they had, and figure out how to let go.

An incredibly touching feature, TWISTED ROOTS explores the secrets a family shares with one another and how they come to terms with the truth. First-time feature director Saara Saarela invites you to closely watch a family holding onto its courage, its dreams, its fears and its secrets.
