Big Buzz Films coming to the 2017 Festival

August 30 is one of our favourite days here at the Calgary International Film Festival offices - the day we release our full lineup of films and our programming schedule! We've been building up to this for months, and we're very excited to share this year's excellent selection of home-grown and international films with all of you.

Filmmaker Q&A: THE LAST ANIMALS Director Kate Brooks

A filmmaker doesn't have to a be a seasoned industry veteran to make a difference. That's the mindset of Kate Brooks, whose first film - the documentary THE LAST ANIMALS - addresses a far-reaching and global issue. Intrigued by the concept, we asked her to share some thoughts on the film and the ideas behind it, in anticipation of her visit to Calgary in September when we screen her film. Here's what she told us.

Filmmaker Q&A - SCORE: A FILM MUSIC DOCUMENTARY Director Matt Schrader

The soundtracks to films are an immensely important part of the overall experience, and have been for decades - think about the epic scores to films like Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, or Jaws, and you'll instantly be hooked by the perfectly composed music. It's almost trailer party time!

Taking place on Friday, September 8, the Calgary International Film Festival Trailer Party is the place to go to preview all the coming films from this year's lineup.

From documentaries and shorts to foreign comedies and horror, we'll be slapping it all together into a neat little package and showing everything at Globe Cinema on 8 Ave - right on time for you to stop in after work!

Late Shows

On Sunday night we hung out at the Ship & Anchor for a special screening of cult classic FEAST (2005) and a shakedown of our creepier, darker, weirder side of the festival lineup known as the Late Shows Series.
