The Calgary International Film Festival prides itself on celebrating and showcasing amazing Canadian talent. Today, the nominations for the 8th Annual Canadian Screen Awards were announced, and boy oh boy are there some CIFF selections among the pack. The awards, made to honour achievements in Canadian film, feature 55(!) nominations for films screened by the Calgary International Film Festival in 2019, and one for 2018! Three CIFF Selections are nominated for the Ted Rogers Best Feature Length Documentary; GORDON LIGHTFOOT: IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND, nîpawistamâsowin: WE WILL STAND UP, and PREY

CIFF 2019's Centrepiece Gala Selection: ONCE WERE BROTHERS: ROBBIE ROBERTSON AND THE BAND was nominated for Best Editing in a Feature Length Documentary. 

In the shorts category, GUN KILLERS was nominated for Best Short Documentary, FORÊT NOIRE was nominated for Best Live Action Short Drama, and both DOCKING and SHANNON AMEN were nominated for Best Animated Short. 

CIFF 2018 Selection, MOUTHPIECE, was nominated for Achievement in Editing for Lara Johnston.

What's next for CIFF? Planning is underway for this year's festival, which will run from September 23rd-October 4th. In the meantime, we have year-round programming, with our monthly series Doc Soup, our brand-new series Global Perspectives already underway and MoS Docs, our Music On Screen Series premiering at Studio Bell on February 19.
