The Calgary International Film Festival is a fun day out for thousands of Calgarians, but there’s a lot more riding on it for the filmmakers of the following movies. Our expert programming team chose from hundreds of films submitted to the festival, and the best of the best are up for some serious cash.

This year at CIFF, 9 Canadian Documentaries will be competing for the DGC Best Canadian Documentary Director Award- and a cash prize of $5,000 from Directors Guild of Canada, plus a $1,000 gift certificate from Vistek.

14 Canadian Narratives will compete for the RBC Emerging Artists Award and a cash prize of $10,000 from RBC.

To be eligible for this competition, Canadian filmmakers must have directed their first or second narrative feature film.

The public may not be able to vote for these awards, but be sure to look out for volunteers holding Ipads when you walk out of each screening- you can rate each film you see using the Ipads and help us to decide which films win this years Audience Choice Awards, presented by CTV.
