How to Festival Guide: September 19 - 30, 2018

The Calgary International Film Festival is a 12-day event that attracts over 40,000 attendees from Calgary and around the world. Whether you are festival regular, or you're trying it for the first time, this "how to festival" guide will help you make the most of your experience. The festival takes place at several central venues including Eau Claire Market, the Globe Cinema, National Music Centre and Arts Commons. Let's get started!

Films and Much More

Calgary Film curates the most innovative and engaging films from Canada and around the world. This year, we are bringing 178 feature and short films, including two galas and several special events. Films are organized into film series that make it easy to browse your favorites.

The #1 place to start your festival planning is at the Film Guide (you can download a version to print or take with you by clicking here). The guide is where you can find everything we'll be showing throughout all 12 days. Come see 1 film or 32. Pick and choose from the guide or interactive schedule. If you're looking for a true film festival experience, find a screening with a Q&A and chat with the filmmaker, cast and crew about the making of their film while the credits roll.

Passes and Tickets

Our new ticketing system is flexible and makes it easy to choose the best way to see films and special events. Buy tickets for individual films, ticket bundles of 6, 10 or 20 that you can share with friends and family, and festival passes for the full film festival experience. We also sell tickets at the box office starting September 14.

Special Events

The Opening Gala and Closing Galas are the biggest attractions of the festival, drawing hundreds of guests, VIPs, and film fans. A ticket to galas includes a pre-reception, the film screening, and an after-party.

Behind the Screen events range from tours of animatronic workshops, to field trips to movie sets, to panel discussions with some of the biggest actors, directors, writers, and filmmakers of the festival.

Lunchtime Shorts makes the most of your lunchhour with four of the festival's short films. Order your ticket and bring your lunch to the Globe Cinema on Tuesday, September 25, 2018.

Important Dates

We encourage patrons to plan your festival experience and book films and events early.
