How To Festival
How do I find out which films are featured in this year’s Festival, and when and where they’re screening?
Our 2010 Festival dates are September 24 – October 3. The Souvenir Program will be available the second week of September, and is THE ultimate resource for all festival happenings. The entire film schedule will also be available right here at www.calgaryfilm.com in the first week of September.
Where do I get a 2010 CIFF Souvenir Guide?
The coveted Calgary International Film Festival Souvenir Program Guide is available at our Festival Box Office in Eau Claire Market beginning September 8, as well as a handful of sponsor and partner locations around town that you can find right here.
Have any of these films been shown before?
Some of the films CIFF features will have already premiered at other worldly film festivals, while some will be see their global debut right here at the Calgary International Film Festival!
Where can I find reviews or background information to help me decide which of CIFF’s featured films I want to see?
It’s here somewhere… Keep cruising through www.calgaryfilm.com for film info, links to trailers and the official websites for many of our movies.
Are films only shown one time at one location, or are they spread out across different theatres at different times?
Some films are screened more than once, but not all, and typically they are screened at various theatres and at different times of the day to provide maximum visibility to the film-going public.
Where do I find ticketing and venue information?
Whether we’re months away from Opening Night or in the final countdown to the start of CIFF, ticketing and venue info will be available here at www.calgaryfilm.com, and will be as current as humanly possible. Our best advice is to check back often for updates!
How is attending the Calgary International Film Festival different from seeing a regular movie?
At a CIFF screening, you can expect someone to introduce the film and lead a discussion after the film. Sticking around for these chats is optional, of course, but quite often the producer, director and/or actors are in attendance at the screening and all sorts of magic is revealed about the making of the movie.
Sure I’m a bit embarrassed to ask, but what is the appropriate attire to wear to CIFF?
Not a worry – anything goes for regular screenings. We’ve seen people rock everything from tuxedos to sweat pants. Typically, people dress up a bit more for the Gala events and after-parties, but you didn’t need us to tell you that...
What is the cost for these Gala events I hear so much about?
All ticket and pass information is on our 2010 Ticket Prices page. The Gala pass price includes both a screening of the Gala film and entry to the Gala party that takes place at a nearby venue after the film. Trust us when we say you won’t regret attending a CIFF Gala bash.
Where are the Gala events located?
The location of the Gala will be on your ticket. As with regular screenings, you should arrive half an hour early for all Gala films..
What can I expect at a Gala event?
You can expect the occasional red carpet, plenty of libations, lots of film-goers – both locals and international visitors, ready to kcik up their heels and chat about film, culture and all that jazz. Don’t be surprised if the director, producer and/or actors attend.
What is the CIFF Special Series all about?
The Calgary International Film Festival presents a variety of Series and Spotlights every year to highlight the incredible diversity that exists within the art of filmmaking, as well as to present a broad spectrum of cinematic styles and genres. A few past and present CIFF series include, Reality Reels, Music in Film, Midnight Series, Aboriginal Spotlight, Quebec Spotlight, Spotlight on India, Hump Night, The Immigrant Experience and Art & Architecture. And of course, we’re looking forward to bringing movie lovers an exciting mix of films and genres at the 2010 Festival.
