Doc Soup Calgary Presents: Blood Brother

Posted on November 22, 2013

The Calgary International Film Festival, in partnership with Hot Docs, is pleased to present the award-winning film Blood Brother as our December 4, 2013, screening at 7 p.m. at Cineplex Eau Claire. Garnering rave reviews across the globe, and winning both the Jury Award and Audience Award at this year’s Sundance film festival, Blood Brother is a must see film of the year.

“This film shook us to our very core… It is a delicate character study. Exuberant. Heartbreaking, Transcendent. And profoundly, moving.” – Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth, Waiting for Superman)

After enduring a traumatic upbringing, and dissatisfied with his life in Pittsburgh, Rocky Braat travelled to India as an aimless tourist. What he found there was redemption and the family he never had. Directed by his longtime friend Steve Hoover, Blood Brother follows Rocky’s journey and stature within the tiny village of Tamil Nadu, where he has lived for the past five years. An intimate portrait of family and love, Blood Brother profiles Rocky’s relationship with a group of HIV-positive children in the village. Unlike other tourists that visit and leave, Rocky decides to stay behind and dedicate his life to the dispossessed and their families. With determination to become more than just a passing influence in their lives, Rocky’s dedication to his family becomes an invaluable resource in the lives of many.
