How do I find out which films are screening, where and when?
Our festival dates for next year are September 19 – 28, 2008. The Souvenir Program will be available the first week of September, and is THE resource for all festival goings-on. The schedule will also be available online at calgaryfilm.com.
Can you help me plan my film viewing?
You bet! Our online tool at calgaryfilm.com lets you create a personalized (and printable) schedule based on your favourites. You can even click through to buy your tickets online, too.
Have these films been shown before?
Some have been premiered before at various worldwide film festivals and some will be seen for the first time at our festival!
Are any reviews available to help me with my choices?
Yes, check calgaryfilm.com for film information and, in many cases, links to the film’s official website.
Are movies only shown one time at one location, or are they spread out across different theatres at different times?
Some films are screened more than once. And typically they are screened at various theatres and at different times of the day, to provide maximum visibility.
Where do I find ticketing and venue information?
As the festival approaches, up-to-date ticketing and venue information will be available. Check back for updates!
How’s it different from seeing a regular movie?
At a CIFF screening, you can expect someone to introduce the film and someone to lead a discussion after the film. (You do not have to take part in the discussion if you need to leave.) Often the producer, director and/or actors are in attendance at the screening. And you may be invited to get together with a group of people after the screening to chat about the movie.
What do I wear?
Anything goes for regular screenings. We’ve seen people in everything from tuxedos and gowns to T-shirts and sweat pants. Typically, people dress up a bit more for the Galas.
How much are the Galas?
All ticket and pass information will be on our 2008 Box Office page. The Gala pass price includes both the Gala film and the Gala party taking place after the film.
Where are the Galas?
The location of the Gala is on your ticket. As with regular screenings, you should arrive half an hour early for Gala films.
What can I expect at a Gala Party?
You can expect drinks and snacks and lots of film-goers from Calgary and around the world ready to party and chat about film and much more! Often the director, producer and/or actors attend.
What are the Special Series?
CIFF presents a variety of Special Film Series every year to highlight the diversity within the art of filmmaking, and present a broad spectrum of cinematic styles and genres. Our past series have included: Reality Reels, Music in Film, Midnight Series, Aboriginal Spotlight, Quebec Spotlight, Spotlight on India, Hump Night, The Immigrant Experience and Art & Architecture. We are looking forward to bringing you an exciting mix of films at the upcoming 2008 Festival.
