A stunning meditation on life and death, which unfolds by examining a relationship.

Shirley (Dandara de Morais) has left the city and moved to the countryside in order to take care of her aging grandmother.

Her main joy comes from spending time with her boyfriend Jeison (Geová Manoel dos Santos), who works with her on the coconut plantation.

The seaside town’s location is distinctly marked by the arrival of the trade winds in August, which pound the coastline.

The force of these winds and the associated high tides results in a discovery that disrupts the daily flow of life in the town and forces both Shirley and Jeison to examine their lives in a different light.

Brazilian director Gabriel Mascaro is known for his groundbreaking documentaries (HIGH-RISE, DEFIANT BRASILIA) and is able to transfer his attentive eye for detail into AUGUST WINDS, his feature film debut.

The film blurs the line between documentary and fiction by using non-actors and being set in the North Eastern part of Brazil during the month of August when the trade winds are at their peak.

Mascaro is also the film’s cinematographer and his eye-popping visuals along with distinct sound helps create a strong atmosphere for the film which is a meditative look at life and death.
