With a three million yen debt to the Yakuza, failed actor Kanuta (Satoshi Tsumabuki) is too desperate to turn down any opportunities, even if that means working as a smuggler, moving contraband and even corpses for the underworld's worst. It's a dirty job, but it gets even messier when one of the packages attracts the ire of a psychotic gang boss, kicking off a series of bloody battles that Kanuta will be lucky to make it through alive. Working from a manga by Shohei Manabe, director Katsuhito Ishii (the mastermind behind The Taste of Tea, Funky Forest and the O-Ren Ishii anime sequence in Kill Bill) has created a crime-soaked underworld where anything can happen. With the physics-defying energy of anime, a twisted sense of humour and plenty of viscera, it's a one-of-a-kind film from one of Japan's most distinctive genre talents.
