Director / writer / producer John Alan Simon will attend both screenings!
Like a kind of anti-MINORITY REPORT, RADIO FREE ALBEMUTH eschews the action-driven approach to adapting legendary science fiction author Phillip K. Dick (whose stories have been adapted for BLADE RUNNER, TOTAL RECALL, A SCANNER DARKLY and many more) in favour of a more cranial one. A thriller set against the backdrop of a McCarthy era-inspired dystopia, RADIO FREE ALBEMUTH isn’t afraid to explore the existential implications of its sci-fi conceits alongside its suspenseful set pieces.
When record store slacker Nick Brady (Jonathan Scarfe) starts receiving transmissions from an alien intelligence in his dreams, he impulsively relocates to Los Angeles, where he meets Sylvia Aramchek (Alanis Morrisette), a singer who convinces Nick to help her craft a pop song with subliminal revolutionary messages. Helped along by Dick stand-in Phil (BOARDWALK EMPIRE’S Shea Wingham, also in TAKE SHELTER at this year’s fest), it isn’t long before the three attract the attention of the insidious Friends of the American People – a Gestapo-like organization committed to rooting out revolutionaries and cultural saboteurs.
