Producers Matt Patterson & Richard Jones in Attendance!
The Beidermans are a typical God-fearing American family who gather once a year for a group vacation, and spend the rest of the time staying out of each other’s hair. Old wounds reopen and emotional debris burbles to the surface when the churchgoing Thomas Beiderman’s estranged brother Seth shows up for the reunion… with his boyfriend. Not only is this the first indication Seth has given his family that he’s gay, it’s the first indication he’s given his boyfriend that he’s not out to his family. Relationships are tried, tested and renewed in this bittersweet dramatic comedy that recounts the Beiderman’s most memorable, and possibly last, family vacation ever.
AN ORDINARY FAMILY co-writer/director Mike Akel’s proved he had a knack for finding the real emotions in an elevated comic situation with the breezy 2006 mockumentary, CHALK, which won audiences and critics over with its razor-sharp, achingly realistic vivisection of the teaching profession.
