THE FREEBIE is an intimate look at Darren (Dax Shepard) and Annie (Kate Aselton), a young married couple who discover that neither one of them can remember the last time they had sex. One night while laying in bed, Darren comes up with the bright idea of the couple taking one night off, a “freebie,” to go on a date and sleep with someone else. A stranger, a curious friend, a cute “someone” you see at the local coffee shop every day—no strings attached.
The real question is, does one really want what they think they want? Can their life truly go back to normal afterwards? Can they go through with this? Do they even want to in the end?
Written and directed by Aselton in her directorial debut, THE FREEBIE is a clever, humorous and perfectly scripted story about love and relationships. It’s about pushing the boundaries of monogamy, comfort in relationships and the question of whether you can really be with one person forever, or whether the spark eventually just dies.
