Writer-director Richard Levine makes his feature debut with this heartfelt family drama. Ned (Liev Schreiber) and Jeannie (Helen Hunt) are struggling to maintain a healthy marriage, and it’s more than just the usual struggle between structure and freedom. Between learning to accept their gay son, coping with Jeannie’s sick father and dealing with their own inevitable aging, the challenges of every day life keep piling up. To add to the tension at home, Ned is being forced to work excessive overtime at his job as a television writer, and he soon finds himself on the verge of a nervous breakdown. On top of all this, Ned’s co-writer is forcing him to test the boundaries of commitment and spontaneity in life, all of which is pushing him farther from reality.
Levine, best known for his television work on series like NIP/TUCK and JAG, brings an undeniable honesty to his first feature. Hunt and Schreiber join a cast of notables, including Brian Dennehy, Eddie Izzard and Carla Gugino in this poignant take on everyday family life.
